Premises Licence

A Premises Licence is reviewed by Responsible Authorities during the consultation process; it is then granted by the Licensing Authority of the Local Authority.

The definition of a licensed premises is an establishment in which alcoholic beverages and regulated entertainment are permitted for retail and consumption.

A premises licence is required when you offer or provide one or more of the following three licensable activities: the sale of alcohol, the provision of regulated entertainment, the provision of late night refreshment {LNR}, the supply of alcohol by a club to its members and guests.

Once your application has been submitted, a 28-day consultation period will take place, during which time those who wish to object may do so – no objections, licence granted.

This is a relatively straightforward process, with a few forms and signatures, and it can be submitted to the local authority for approval.

The DPS is the designated Premises Supervisor – a personal licence holder, responsible for the day-to-day running.

A premises licence can only name one DPS, but a DPS can be named on more than one premises licence. He/she must hold a Personal Licence.

In every licensed premises that is authorised for the sale by retail of alcohol, one personal licence holder must be specified as the DPS. A DPS does not have to be present at the licensed premises at all times but they must be easy to contact when not present.

Yes. The plan must meet certain legal requirements {S182}, and then be submitted as a part of the application.

You need to place a Blue Notice’ at the premises for a period of 28 days, in addition to placing an advert in a’ local newspaper, each of these must meet the section 182 guidelines.
